Archiving Paper Documents

The faculties and support services manage their own (up-to-date) archives. The Department of Records and Information Services (DIV) manages all the UvA's paper archives older than 10 years. If required, Faculties (and individual researchers) may put the DIV in charge of paper archives sooner. This could be appropriate for informed consent forms, for example, and completed questionnaires.

Archiving Publications in UvA-DARE

The UvA Digital Academic Repository (UvA-DARE) is used to store publications by UvA researchers. Over 26,000 publications are available through open access. As a UvA researcher, you can register and upload your publications (and metadata relating to publications) in UvA-DARE using the Pure research registration system.

Once it has been registered and uploaded, the information (and the publication in the case of open access) will be available on your personal page. After having been validated by your research institute or faculty and the Library, the information will also be available in UvA-DARE.

Archiving Data: SURFsara

The SURFsara Data Archive service provides long-term data storage, focusing specifically on secure storage for data that are not needed for active use. For example, you can ‘freeze’ data associated with a particular article, or store raw data that may be needed for subsequent research.
You can use the internet to transfer your data to the Data Archive. The Data Archive supports various data transfer protocols, such as (HPN)SCP, SFTP, rsync and GridFTP. These protocols work in both a Linux and a Windows environment. You can log into the data archive via Secure Shell (SSH) and manage your data using the command line.

This enables you to indicate how long you want the data to be stored, and who you want to authorise to have data access for each separate project.
